Love…2012-style.

For my last post of 2011, I’m going to keep things short and sweet. Partially ’cause I figure it’s nice to listen to the industry experts every now and then. But mostly because today I’m auntie-ing it up with my adorable nephew Ollie

By the way, if you missed my sister’s guest post on Wednesday about little Ollie, I highly recommend reading it. Even more than I recommend chocolate syrup on bananas. Mmm…

If you’re anything like me, you may have hit reflection mode in this last week of 2011. For me, this past year certainly had its up and down moments…its smile and frown days…its highs and lows and everything goes times. (Sorry, got a little Dr. Seuss-y there.)

But as the calendar flips tomorrow, I don’t think I’ll be looking behind me so much as looking ahead.
And I read a quote a couple weeks back that I’ve decided is the lens through which I want to view this next year:

If what we call love doesn’t take us beyond ourselves, it is not really love. If we have the idea that love is characterized as cautious, wise, sensible, shrewd, & never taken to extremes, we have missed the true meaning. ~Oswald Chambers

I love that. I want 2012 to be the year I love in a new way. If I were to rephrase Oswald’s quote into the positive, I’d say it like this:

What I call love must take me beyond me. This kind of extreme love is courageous, generous and adventurous. It may involve risks, and some might even call it foolish. But it’s the real thing.

To love like that, the way God loves, that’s what I’ll be reaching for in 2012. Happy New Year!

    1. Incredible and beautiful. I’m giggling at Beth’s comment, “So is your word for 2012,”love?” Sounds like it!

My word is strength and I’m blogging about it next week. It’s been weird taking off the last couple of weeks. I feel out of the loop! lol

Have fun playing with sweet Ollie!

    2. Beth, I’m still waffling on my word. 🙂 I had picked “soar,” but after reading that quote, I’m now attached to “love,” too. I still have a day left to decide. 🙂

Can’t wait to read your blog on strength, Jess!

Haha, Jennie…I’m talking love in a general sense. 🙂
