Yes, yes, usually on Wednesdays we welcome guests around here and it’s always one of my favorite parts of the week. But I’m switching things up just a teensy bit today with a video of ACFW highlights. Don’t worry, though. Welcome Mat Wednesday will be back in full swing next week with the wonderful Krista Phillips. I can’t wait!
For now, here’s a little ACFW highlight reel complete with a Thor cameo and, yes, purple food.
Note: most of these photos were taken with my iPhone, so there are a few scary eyes and fuzzy spots. 🙂
p.s. Special thanks to Jill Kemerer for letting me use her photo of me and her since mine turned out blurry. 🙂
And I need to know, have you ever had purple mashed potatoes? Is this a normal thing? Have I been naive all these years to the colorful nature of spuds?

Fun! What a great video. It really was an amazing conference this year!
Amen to that–totally amazing!
Ha! You weren’t the only one looking strangely at those potatoes. They are the new thing, though. I ONLY know this from too many hours watching Food Network.
LOL, shoot, I knew there was a reason I needed cable…then I wouldn’t be so shocked by the purple potatoes! 🙂
LOVE!!
My culinary arts student son said plate presentation is all about color! The Hyatt delivered!!
For sure–very colorful meal! 🙂
Actually…I’ve had purple potatoes before at…my local hospital! Wow, who would’ve thought they’d be on the cutting edge.
ACFW was absolutely wonder. So great to see everyone
I agree–so wonderful to see everyone. If only it didn’t go by so quickly!
I love this!! Yes, my mom and dad actually grew purple potatoes. They shared some “spuds” with me and I made purple potato soup out of them! Funny!
Your devotion inspired so many people, including me, Melissa. We were all blessed to have you there!
Your parents grew purple potatoes? How cool! And to think, I didn’t even know they existed. 🙂
I’m so glad the devotion inspired you. Yay God!
So fun to meet you in person, Melissa! Your morning devotion blessed me beyond words!
Yay, I loved meeting you, Cindy! Thanks so much for the kind words about the devotion!
Awesome video Mtagg!
Loved the way you put it together!
Thanks, roomie! 🙂
And now I feel I’ve been there. Thank you for that! Great wrap up! Yummy purple potatoes!
~ Wendy
Oh good, I’m glad I could give you the feeling of being there. 🙂
Donde es el musica del los churangas???? Muy exelente!
NOW I’m ready to go to Bolivia!!!!!
And ACFW next year.
Gracias hermana
Hehe, glass you liked the music. 🙂 When do you leave for Bolivia? I bet it’ll be amazing!
Yeah, those purple mashed potatoes? Weird.
But the food at the Hyatt was impressive, especially for a gluten-free gal like me. You couldn’t tell the difference between the regular meals and the GF meals. i know, because I sent my first dinner back three times — and finally talked to the chef!
Loved the video, M-Tagg. So, what did you call the cute guy in the coffee shop, Miss Tagg?
Haha, I didn’t call the guy anything. I just liked how he remembered my name. WEll, my last name at least. And, okay, fine, so I was wearing a nametag…still…:)
They were weird…but tasted delicious and I was starving! Loved your video, Tagg! And it was great meeting you in person as well. 🙂
Yes, they were good! Great food, all around. Especially that amazing chocolate cake Saturday night. 🙂
Loved this! So glad you had an awesome time. Thanks for sharing for those of us who couldn’t make it this time. I’m so happy for all your recent news, Melissa. I had a feeling about you…best wishes and blessings on your exciting new journey!
Thank you, Loree!!
I hope you get to go next year so I can meet you in person!
I’ve had blue potato chips before, so the potatoes didn’t freak me out too much. I was sitting next to Keli Gwyn though, and she said she wasn’t eating them until someone else tried them first. LOL.
Sooooooooo fun meeting you! Love that we got so many pics together. Yay!
Haha, I think I remember her saying that. 🙂
Yaaaay for meeting you, too. Fun…fun…FUN!
I loooooooved this video! Melissa, seeing you around the conference always made me smile! So glad I can celebrate with you on this awesome journey. Loved our pic from Keli with Lindsay!! 😀
It was exactly the same for me–smiles each time I saw you. Thanks for celebrating with me. 🙂
Have to admit the purple mashed potatoes threw me for a loop too!
Fun Highlights, Melissa!
Thanks, MIchelle!
Fun video! Yes, purple mashed potatoes are weird. But they were tasty.
They WERE tasty!!
Great video! It’s so fun hearing about how ACFW went! Fun post 🙂
Thanks, Livia!
I’ve been off the grid for a little while so I’m late in offering up my congratulations! Bethany House! Two books! Awesomeness 🙂
Thanks for the congrats, Beth. It’s still crazy surreal! 🙂
Hi Melissa,
Fun video!
We grow purple potatoes every year in our garden – love them! They just have a slightly more…purple flavor. Well, they taste slightly different than whites or reds so maybe it’s the flavor of purple???
Blessings,
Becky
Ahh, another person who knew about purple potatoes. Apparently my veggie (er, starch) knowledge is very lacking. 🙂 Glad you liked the video! 🙂
You are awesome, Melissa, a class act! I loved meeting you in person. And I do believe we were at the same table when I stared in disbelief at the purple stuff plopped on my plate. I had to ask Alena what it was. She was so nice and didn’t laugh at me. Can you tell I don’t get out much? =)
I know I’ve said it before, but I was soooo impressed by your devotion. You were poised, polished, and professional as well as being encouraging and entertaining. You. Rock!
Oh, thank you, Keli. You encourage me so much!! I loved meeting you in person too. That first night, giggling around the dinner table…loved it!
I really prayed hard about Friday’s devotional…all the encouragement I received afterward tells me God answered the prayer. My hope was that He’d work through my antsy nerves to touch hearts.
And for the record, I think YOU rock!
