Grace Triumphant . . . with author Alicia Willis

Q&A

Today I’m happy to welcome repeat guest Alicia Willis to the blog! Alicia is here to tell us about her latest book, Grace Triumphant. And she’s giving away a digital Kindle copy of her book! You can enter to win by leaving a comment below. Thanks for being here today, Alicia!

Melissa: Okay, we need to know about your latest book. What inspired it?

13292947_1701387560116360_755342116_nAlicia: My latest book was inspired by Amazing Grace and the true stories of John Newton and William Wilberforce. I had a great time creating a historical-fiction story around their lives!

Melissa: Do you have a favorite quote from this book?

Alicia: “No.” Elizabeth shook her head. Resolution seeped through her, as powerful as adrenaline. “No one can command my convictions. They are mine, given to me by God and meant for my life’s journey. You can destroy my possessions, but you cannot take what is in my heart.” ― Alicia A. Willis, Grace Triumphant: A Tale of the Slave Trade

Melissa: Which character in the book would you most love to hang out with for a day…and why?Alicia: I would love to hang out with Russell. I love Jack and Elizabeth, but Russell is very unique. Not only is he semi-atheistic (which makes him different from the others), but he is a moral ship-cabin – very unique for his day.

Melissa: What’s your hope for readers who read this story?

Alicia: I hope readers grasp the amazing story behind Amazing Grace. I hope they understand how great our God is and how He can turn something as evil as the slave trade into a message of hope and redemption.
Melissa: What’s next for you on the writing horizon?

Alicia: I am currently working on a historical-fiction retelling of Zorro, entitled Fuego in the Night! I am super excited about it – especially since it’s my first book with an arranged marriage!

    1. An old song from Sunday School has been on my heart lately. “Count Your Blessings” I have a distant family member that has been complaining and complaining and complaining. When I read their posts, I keep hearing my grandmother’s voice singing this song. That’s what I’ve been doing. I have a lot to deal with in my own personal life but this song has made me stop and be thankful for the little things. I haven’t seen my daughter or grandsons for two years due to medical and financial difficulties. I could cry everyday if I let myself but counting my “many blessings name them one by one” has helped, here are a few, free long distance, my husband is still alive, Facebook, cell phone photos, my Kindle, books, authors that have blogs. The list goes on, some things are little superficial things but there are days when those are the only things I can count.
This book looks very interesting. I would like the chance to win.

    2. My favorite hymn is I Am a Child of God. I learned it while teaching in the primary in my church and listening to the song being song by sweet children’s voices really gets to me. Donny Osmond does a great job, too. 🙂

    3. My favorite song is “Because I Have Been Given Much”. It just reminds me that to truly move beyond my problems, I have to forget myself and serve others.

    4. Great interview! I homeschooled all 6 of my kids, and loved it! One of my favorite hymns is Living for Jesus, because I went forward for salvation when we were singing that hymn. (And I LOVE the words-“Living for Jesus a life that is true. Striving to please Him in all that I do. Yielding allegiance glad-hearted & free. This is the pathway of blessing for me. O Jesus, Lord & Savior, I give my life to Thee, for Thou in Thine Atonement didst give Thy life for me. I own no other master. My heart shall be Thy Throne. My life I give henceforth to live, O Christ for Thee alone.”

    5. Great interview! My favorite hymn is Come Thou Fount. The second verse, “Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God, He to rescue me from danger, interposed His precious blood.”
This always speaks so deeply to me, that Jesus gave everything for me.

    6. I waver between two favorites. My first choice however, must be the hymn in which the author’s focus is on God alone. It is: “Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty” (The United Methodist Hymnal Number 064) 🙂
The picture the author portrays of the adoration & worship before our Almighty God makes my heart tremble in anticipation & hope.

(Although you only asked for a favorite hymn… a close second is “Great is Thy Faithfulness.” This one also reflects on who God is, but its focus centers on the obvious… HIS faithfulness to me.)
