Sometimes, the people around me just make me so happy. And by around, I mean anything from the cubicle next door to more of an interweb neighbor situation.
And sometimes, it’s just nice to recap the niceness of said nice people. Here goes:
- My coworker Lyndsay recently (fine, two months ago) wrote a to-do list for me…in dry erase marker…on my desk top. This, after we discovered our desks actually work as dry erase markerboards. I turned all giddy when I saw her list the next day. It’s the little things, yeah? (Or in this case, the big, shiny-surfaced things.)
Yeah, some of these are inside-joke-ish, but I think everyone can appreciate a list written on a desk top! |
- Another coworker sent me a link to an article about last week’s peculiar stats in the Jets-Texans game. It appears Tim Tebow may have gone to New York City not only to do the whole quarterback thing, but to take on evil in numerical-slash-athletic form. For the record, I have nothing against Mark Sanchez. But I can appreciate statistical irony as much as anybody.
- In other Tim Tebow-related news, awesome blogging buddy Jessica Patch tweeted Tebow on my behalf to find out if he likes candy corn. Because obviously these are the important things in life. For the record, Jess does not like candy corn, but I still love her.
- One day last week, my mom called me before I headed out for work…just to say hi. How sweet is that?
- My friend Laura drove a couple hours to hang out with me as a late birthday present. And she totally didn’t yang me about my empty fridge or dusty furniture or the fact that I couldn’t remember when I last vacuumed!
Your turn! Who made you smile last week?

My BFF – we high-tailed it out of her for the weekend to shop. Not that we even love shopping. And it rained the entire time–at our outdoor shopping mall destination. But we had chocolate. And each other. And our twisted senses of humor that typically get us kicked out of places. So it was all amazingly good.
So DOES TT like candy corn?? 😉 I know. It’s gotta be a deal breaker, right?
Ooh fun!! 🙂 Some days I like shopping, some days I don’t…but if a BFF or sister is involved, I’m always in.
I don’t know whether Tim likes candy corn. Apparently he was too busy lifting weights or something to tweet Jess back. But…I don’t know. It might not be that big of a deal breaker BECAUSE if he doesn’t like candy corn, then that just means more for me, right?
haha! RIGHT! And lifting weights will just make him eye-candy for you, so it’s all good;)
Ha!! So much LOLing going on here. 🙂
Fun Melissa! Love the to-do-list. 🙂
My boys made me smile yesterday when they worked on building a “garage” in the backyard for two straight hours without arguing!
Ahh, fun! 🙂
My hubby, son and s-i-l when they not only did the dishes, but swept the kitchen floor. 🙂
Ooh, awesome. Are they available for hire?
I met some amazing people at my agency conference. Some said kind things out of the blue, while others cracked me up with silly, fun comments.
Great to get away for a bit.
~ Wendy
I heard that conference was a blast…and in Monterrey…beautiful! 🙂
Awwww, what a sweet post. 🙂 My kids usually make me smile. Kids in general do, actually. My nieces and nephews make me laugh too.
Oh yes, I know what you mean! My nephew makes me smile and laugh like crazy…as is well-documented on this blog. Haha!
My two girlfriends, Sonia and Shari, who met me at OTB (On the Border), for dinner and conversation and laughter because, well, I needed a good dose of all of that. And then we walked over to Whole Foods (just across the parking lot) and indulged in the best creme brulee ever!! Nothing like a night out with BFFs to make everything all better.
Oh that sounds like a blast. And yummy too. 🙂 I love hanging out with girlfriends.
Nice! I smiled big when my younger sis called me out of the blue to pick me up from work for lunch. Fun!!
How fun! I need to coerce both my younger sisters into moving to my town. 🙂
I have yet to hear back from TT. Which makes me think he does NOT like candy corn. Just sayin. 🙂
Lindsay Harrel sent me a video on my bday singing. It was awesome, and then 3 of my “kids” (young adults) sang me a video song as well. Totally hilarious and made me smile. And I got a funny voice mail from Jill Kemerer. I smiled a lot over the weekend!
Well, I will forgive Tim for not responding since he had a big game yesterday. Which they won. Which I know only because of Twitter. 🙂
I have a singing video of Linds, too, from my birthday. I saved it for re-listening later and/or future blackmail. Hehehe…
Blackmail…hey! I’ve gotta figure out how to make them self-destruct after 30 days or something…well, without destroying your phone, anyway.
Haha! Okay, I will refrain from blackmail. Besides, it’s a good video, so it doesn’t really work as blackmail anyway, haha. And yeah, probably would be good for you NOT to destroy my phone. How would we text each other? 🙂
It would definitely make that more difficult. That, and tweeting. And emailing. And such.
Who made me smile last week? The little, elderly lady who came to my rescue after I nearly knocked myself out on a store shelf. I never got my sweet angel’s name, but her kindness was a balm to my heart.
Oh, that’s sweet! I love that it was a little, elderly lady coming to your rescue rather than the other way around.
I smiled when I got a phone call from someone I’d never met–a friend of someone I’d met at a book club meeting I attended–telling me she wanted to buy my book and that she’d found a store in town willing to carry it if I would drop off some copies. I did, and my new friend went right down to get it. Gotta love excited readers.
Aww, how cool of her to take the time not only to call you but to connect with the bookstore in town!
We had some friends over for breakfast on Saturday morning. It was good to take a break for a bit and relax with friends. Then Mike and I had a date night on Saturday…Pei Wei, Barnes and Noble, and Cold Stone Creamery. Can’t go wrong with that combo.
And…what will make me smile this NEXT week? The thought of hanging out with YOU this weekend!!!!!!
What’s Pei Wei? I know, I’m showing my northern-Midwestern-ish-ness. 🙂
Yaaaay! I can’t wait to hang out at Storycrafters!!!!
Chinese food. Deliciousness. I will take you there…and Famous Dave’s…when you come visit me. 😉
Yessss! I love Chinese food and Famous Dave’s is one of my favorite places in the whole world. Oh the barbecue sauce happiness. And can I just say again, we get to hang out in four days!
My husband got up with our son when he was sick last week, and put the roast in the crockpot when I forgot to do it before work. He’s such a good guy. 🙂
Now that’s just the sweetest.
How sweet! My kiddos made me smile last week. I think all three did something random and nice just to show they love me. Like a hug or a message on a note.
Those are some cool kids. 🙂
Is it totally awful that I can’t even remember last week anymore? 🙂 And for the record, white boards get me all crazy-excited! (Well, office supplies in general.) I’d hang them all over my house if I could justify it.
Haha, no, Lacie. Not totally awful. To be honest, I wrote today’s post last Friday…so the memories were fresh. Haha!
I’m telling you, having a desk that can also be a markerboard is seriously cool.
Fun stuff.
Hubby made me smile several times last week, and my son made me laugh out loud on the phone.
I love laugh out loud moments!
Oh goodness, so many people made me smile last week (I was at an agency retreat), but the first thing that came to mind was someone who gave me a thoughtful and unexpected gift.
I bet there were tons of reasons to smile at that retreat! 🙂
Yesterday, my family and I joined some friends in a trip to the zoo. In the backseat of the car I was riding in was our friends’ six-year-old daughter and her baby sister, aged 15 months. “I’m going to sing her to sleep,” said the older one, and she sang a stream-of-consciousness song about how much Jesus loved her little sister: more than rocks and dirt, and the color blue, and a lot of other random stuff! It was SO hard not to laugh out loud, especially when she got to the verse about how if we didn’t have a car, we’d all be dead right now!
Awww, that’s so incredibly cute! Except why does she think you’d all be dead without the car?? Hehehe…
Some lady I don’t know made me laugh…yes, in a very un-Christian laughing at her kind of way. A FB friend posted a video about a woman who wanted Deer Crossing signs moved so the deer would cross at a safer place. Priceless. If this woman is for real, then I will be worried. I pray it’s a spoof though.

Oh. My. Goodness. That might’ve been the best thing I’ve seen on the Internet in I don’t even know how long!!! Also, I’m so impressed with the radio host for not laughing sooner…if it is, in fact, real. Which I almost hope it is. Just…because. 🙂
The comments on your blog made me smile and some made me laugh out loud. I’m with Lacie…can’t remember last week. 🙂
Oh yes, last week now feels like a distant memory to me, too. Haha!
Hey~thanks for calling me a sweet mom and not a sweat mom!! (Remember, “Home Sweat Home”?)
Home Sweat Home will live on forever. LOL!
