Uncle Jesse’s still got it.

Oh my goodness, guys, this happened last week:

Yup, that’s John Stamos aka Uncle Jesse from Full House reuniting with his band on the Jimmy Fallon show. My favorite part is when they break into the Full House theme song…at which point I realized I still know ALL the lyrics.

And that first song they sing transported me back to the episode when Uncle Jesse makes a music video for the song, “Forever.” So of course I had to YouTube it. And of course it made me giggle so much my stomach hurt. Here it is for your entertainment:

True story: I went to school with a couple guys who are cousins to Stephanie Tanner…er, Jodie Sweetin. One of them (or maybe both–my memory is fuzzy) actually appeared on an episode. Also true: I was always sad Uncle Joey never seemed to be able to hold on to a girlfriend. I mean, his mullet was never as great as Jesse’s, true, but come on…he was funny.

All righty, did you ever watch Full House? If so, who was your favorite character? If not, what was your favorite 90s TV show? (Ooh, ooh, please someone say Dr. Quinn.)

p.p.s. If you’re a writer and are planning to go the ACFW Conference in September, then I have to give a shameless plug for the MBT Pizza Party on Saturday, September 14–that’s the free night of the conference. It’s going to be SO fun. Details here.

    1. So of course I’m way older than you and should have been over my John Stamos infatuation by the time Full House rolled around, but I wasn’t! 🙂 Loved this! And I love that my young adult children enjoy watching Full House reruns! Thanks for the fun video this morning!

      1. Haha, but should anyone ever get over a John Stamos infatuation? Haha! My sister actually has quite a few seasons of Full House on dvd, so I love watching episodes with her…and laughing when the music inevitably turns serious toward the end of an episode when the “moral” of the episode happens. 🙂

      1. I think it was mainly just John Stamos and then Lori Louglin coming out at the end…and Bob Saget in the crowd. I didn’t actually watch the show, just saw it in some headline the next day, so I could be wrong…

    2. Full House! Every Friday night. I watched Doctor Quinn too. The Full House reruns are all the rage with kids today… who’d of thought? Boy Meets World we watched. Also my brother and I were shameless watchers of Saved By the Bell on Saturday morning.

      1. Haha, I had my Saved By the Bell-watching years too. 🙂 With Boy Meets World, I didn’t actually watch it regularly growing up, but then when I was older watched a ton of reruns with a friend and got all caught up. Oh, Rider Strong… 🙂

      1. Okay, one of the coolest books I own is a book all about Sesame Street…it is amazing how every Muppet on the show has a specific age it’s supposed to represent and there’s SO much psychology on it, down to the stripes on Bert and Ernie’s shirts…it’s such a cool book!

    3. Oh, I LOVE the Pizza Party, that’s one of the things I’m most bummed to miss.

Loved Full House, but DJ’s older brother, AKA Mr Cameron was the one who had my heart (LOL) all the way in the 4th grade. So of course I think its really cool that Candace and Kirk are really outspoken in their Christian faith as adults.

Also loved Perfect Strangers and the show with Urkel (forgetting the name).

      1. I’m sad you’ll miss the pizza party, Julia. It’s a blast of an event, that’s for sure.

I still remember when I realized Kirk and Candace Cameron were siblings…for whatever reason, it felt like LIFE-CHANGING information to me. Haha!!

I can’t remember what the Urkel show was called either, but we watched it now and then. Was Perfect Strangers the one with the two roommates? It’s another one I think we watched every once in awhile. I actually didn’t watch much TV as a kid, but Full House, Dr. Quinn and MacGuyver were our regular shows. 🙂

    4. Yay for the walk down Memory Lane! I watched TGIF every Friday night…Full House, Family Matters, Boy Meets World, Step by Step. Good times, good times.

My favorite Full House character? Uncle Jesse, duh! “Have mercy!”

      1. OH Family Matters–that’s the Urkel one! We were trying to figure out what that was called in the comment above. TGIF–that was some good TV. Actually, we didn’t watch it every Friday–we were more of a movie family–but now and then we’d catch it.

But my favorite Boy Meets World-watching experience? Definitely last February at your place! 🙂

    5. Definitely watched Full House. Also, I was nervous the whole music video that he was going to knock over 1 of those hundreds of candles and start his hair (and everything else) on fire.

      1. Hehehe…I bet Tim is happy that somewhere along the way, you ditched the idea of John Stamos. I, however, could still follow through…unless John Stamos is married…in which case, forget it. I try not to go after married guys…

    6. I watched this! Laughed so hard–loved that he brought back his mullet. Totally watched Full House! I loved DJ b/c we were the same age:) My kids watch that show now. I think I’ve re-watched like every episode multiple times. And yeah, I totally think they should have hooked Joey up–did you know Alanis Morrisette supposedly wrote “You Oughta Know” about him? Crazy:)

      1. NO, I didn’t know that! That’s hilarious…wait, was the song about Joey the character or about Dave Coulier? Now I need to listen to it…

        I always thought DJ’s hair was sweet AND I loved her boyfriend Steve…whose real-life name I can’t remember…same guy who voiced Aladdin…

    7. Okay, true story time! I work on-call in the banquets department at a casino about an hour from my house. Two years ago John Stamos came to the casino with a remnant of the Beach Boys and I had a chance to see and hear them live! It was really cool…and I had never thought about it much before, but John Stamos is a hotty! Whew! 🙂 Here’s the other part of the story (and I’m going to sound a little full of myself for a moment, but indulge me!). I had to wait with another banquet server to clean out the Green Room after the performance and when John came out of the Green Room he glanced at me, and then shot me a second look and gave me a lovely smile and said: “Hi.” 🙂 Ha! I got to go home and tell my husband that I “met” John Stamos! 🙂

      1. Oh my word, Gabe…you got a second look from John Stamos. You do not sound full of yourself. I mean, really…you totally deserve bragging rights! The only thing that would make that story better would be is if instead of “Hi” he’d said, “Have mercy!”

    8. Oh, how funny! I watched some of Full House way back when yet I don’t remember much of it (that was back when MK and Ashley were cute!). You know when they released to DVD, Early Edition, I got hooked on that. It was SO cute. 🙂

Hey, did you see that John is now starring on the USA show Necessary Roughness? I’ve not seen the season he is on (S3) but enjoyed its first two seasons. 🙂

      1. Early Edition–was that with the newspaper that came a day early? I didn’t watch it regularly but I think we caught it now and then. Fun!

You know, I am horrible with knowing what’s on TV now, so I’m sad to report I don’t know anything about Necessary Roughness. But maybe it’s one I should try to catch on Netflix sometime…?

      2. Yes, you summed up Early Edition exactly. That’s the one. It was SO cute. Wish they’d release the final season to DVD because I want to finish it out. 🙂

Necessary Roughness is cute (most the time). Like all modern TV shows, it doesn’t always have the greatest morals but the first season is really funny, whereas the second goes more “serious.”

Not sure what it could be compared to but it’s about a recently divorced therapist who winds up being a pro football teams full-time therapist. Naturally there are lots of things that happen, and of course, eventually a love triangle, too. 😉

    9. How. Awesome. Was. That?????

Thanks for sharing this one, Melissa! So excited that Jesse and the Rippers got back together… even if it was for only one night.

My fave shows of the ’90s are:
      Full House
      Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman
Boy Meets World (so excited for Girl Meets World!)
      Saved by the Bell
      Family Matters
      The Cosby Show

I watched almost all of these every week back then. Ahhh, the memories!

Thanks for the trip back in time, Melissa!

      1. Answer: So. Awesome!!!

It’s things like this–a TV show band reuniting–that make the world a happy place. 🙂

Definitely watched all those shows you mentioned–some regularly, some not. Dr Quinn, oh yes. It was Saturday night ritual and then I’d talk with my friends at church the next day about it. Like, “Oh my goodness, did you see Sully totally throw his hatchet at that bad guy last night? Isn’t he sooo cool?” 🙂

      2. Lol! I just finished watching season two of Dr. Quinn and realized that the Colleen in the first two seasons isn’t the same one in the rest of them. I wonder why she left?

That show is still one of the best I’ve ever seen. Beats most stuff on tv today.

      3. I don’t know why the first Colleen left but I do remember my sister and I being SO angry that the new Colleen had red hair. Not because we have anything against red hair but because the kids all used to be blond. We were like, dude, if you’re going to switch out a character at least TRY to help us with the transition by casting someone who looks at least a LITTLE bit like the original. Haha…we were very unimpressed. 🙂

      4. Totally agree! That’s like giving Dr. Quinn a modern car for transportation instead of inching your way up by introducing the Model T first. Boy, wouldn’t she be shocked!

I was wishing I had a bigger dvd budget last week when I saw all the seasons of Dr. Quinn on sale for only $18 apiece! I’ve only got the first two seasons, but can’t afford to get another one yet. But, hey, my birthday’s coming up soon. Maybe I’ve been talking about it enough for my folks to get the hint. 😉

    10. I never watched Full House, but I did watch some Dr. Quinn–a little. But I was an 80’s kid, so it was Little House for me. You might be interested to know that my latest reviewer of my manuscript was reminded of Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman. I’d say it wasn’t really in my mind to write a book after her, but if there’s a whole tribe out that who loves her–I’m hoping they’ll love my book!

      1. Ohhh, Little House. I watched reruns of that, for sure!

Love that your latest reviewer brought up Dr. Quinn. There would probably be an entire crew of 90s kids/teens who would love your book, in that case. Especially if there’s a Sully-like character. 🙂
