New Look, New Tagline, Same Me

Notice anything different today?
I’ve got a new header! And no, I didn’t suddenly turn graphic design smart. Instead, the talented Melanie Moore of Elegant Custom Blogs designed this for me. Before I say anything else today, I have to totally recommend her work. She took my jumble of thoughts about colors and feel and theme and made them into something pretty. She did in a few days what I couldn’t have done in months. Or, let’s face it, probably years.
You may also notice I’m sporting a new tagline. One of the questions Melanie asked me before getting to work on my banner was if I have a tagline.
If you’ve been around Tag(g)lines before, you may know my tagline used to be “Faith. Fiction. Frivolity. And all in one place!” (Yes, I sorta like alliteration.) But to be honest, I think I whipped up that old tagline in about 30 seconds. And though it does sum up quite well what I tend to talk about on Tag(g)lines, I’m not sure it captured the essence of my fiction writing life.
Love. Hilarity. Hope.
Now that’s my fiction in a nutshell.
Love: Peeps, it took me a long time to admit I write contemporary romance. I used to worry people would instantly think of dime novels with half-dressed women and Rambo-like men. Um, no.

These days I’m proud to claim romance as my genre of choice. Honestly, I think romance – the real thing, maybe not so much the sometimes-shallow Hollywood version – is God-ordained and awesome. So there you go. Romance, romance, romance. Yup, I said it.
Hilarity: I’m not going to sit here (er, lay here – yes, I’m still in my jammies in bed) and say I think I’m funny. But what I will say is funny found me. I’ve tried to be Miss Philosophical, Miss Literary, Miss Somber. Yeah, didn’t work so much for me.

But when I embraced my love for laughter, I finally felt at home. And in a world filled with often-dour reality, we need funny. What better place to find it than in the realm of romance. Oh yes.

Hope: If there’s one thing I want my life, my fiction, my blog to be about, it’s hope. You know, I think where I run into trouble more than anywhere else in life is putting my hope in the wrong thing. I want my writing to point to the truest, best, sweetest Hope there is.

Romans 15:13 is one of my favorite verses ever. Honestly, I love it even more than that verse in Acts about the guy falling asleep and out a window. 🙂

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

That’s what I want my fiction to be all about. Woven into the romance, the laughter, always, hope.

Come to think of it, I think I’d like to adopt this tagline for my whole life!

    1. I love your new header and tagline. It is beautiful and fun.

My tagline is Fun, Faith, and Forever Love. (I like alliteration too, it seems.) I love humor, laughter, and having fun. I am all about faith…through the good days and the bad days. And I believe in forever love. This tagline fits my life and my writing!

    2. Yay! I love, love, love it all!! So pretty and the tagline fits you perfectly, Mel. 🙂

I sorta came up with a tagline I’m toying with…Honest Fiction That Inspires. Not sure if it’s good enough, but it does encompass the two biggest things I like to do with my writing: be open/honest and be inspiring. I’m sure I’ll toy with it more later.

I haven’t spent too much time worrying about the design of my blog, but I’m sure I will eventually. For now, it suits me but I’m sure there will come a day when I’ll want to jazz it up. I’ll keep your recommendation in mind!

Happy Friday! You doing lots of writing this weekend? I have lots of glorious time, and praying I use it wisely. Need to enter the Frasier and have a good brainstorming session for my next book…wish me luck!

      1. Linz! I love your tagline too. Yes, I definitely highly recommend Melanie with Elegant Custom Blogs. I actually came across her work at someone else’s blog. And I was tired of trying to figure out how to do a header on my own. Sometimes a person just has to throw in the towel. 🙂 But I’m so glad I did.

No writing this weekend, actually. I’m in Wichita hanging out with my sister and brother-in-law and my adorable nephew Ollie.

Wishing you lots of luck on the Frasier and brainstorming!!

    3. I love your new look, and how funny that it’s a “tagline.” (God has a great sense of humor.)
Mine has been “Where adventure meets redemption” but now that I’m writing historical, hmmmm, it’s the right time to ponder that.

    4. Love your new look! And your tag(g) line is perfect! Since I write romantic suspense, I settled on “Where love and faith cross paths with murder”. My email tagline is “I asked God to teach me about patience, and He gave me a book to write.”

    5. I love your new look for your blog & your Tag(g)line is perfect for you.
I don’t have a tagline yet for my blog. I’ve been dancing around with words for one for months now … I’ll know it when I finally find the right partner.

      🙂

    6. Just getting here…and I’m glad I did. So like God, on the day when I am thinking such things to have your name pop up in a tweet and help me understand the thoughts and leadings that I’ve been feeding on today. Thank you for this post. Great fodder.

    7. Love the new header-that blue is my favorite shade and I think it’s the paint color I’m gonna do in my youngest’s room. Tag lines. Jessica’s post a few weeks back made me think on it, and I gotta say mine’s a bit different for my writing and my blog, but it all boils down to what I’ve put on my writing page – Sharing Truth. At times I’m more serious, other times my stories turn funny (depends on the character in the drivers seat) but through it all I want people to find God’s truth.

      1. Thanks, Susan! I didn’t even have plans to come up with a new tagline per se, but when Melanie started working on my header and asked about a tagline, it got me thinking. I’m excited to have something that “fits” me. Yours is poignant. Love it!

    8. No blog~no post~no header~no book~no tagline…..but wait….I am a Tag(g)…so lets give it a whirl….
(little blue flower)Sing.(little blue flower)Share.(little blue flower)Care.(little blue flower)
      How’s that Melissa??
Love the new look and love the new tagline. Mostly love the Tagg. (you)
