With Rachel Hauck. Proof that we really did hang out… …even if we didn’t get the guest video ready for today. Haha! |
Okay, so for the first time in many a Wednesday, we have no special guest today. I had actually scheduled fabulous author Rachel Hauck and we had brilliant plans to film a video interview this past weekend while we were both in Savannah with the MBT team. It was going to be grand!
The MBT team’s early book launch celebration included cake and plastic toolsets and oh-so-sweet cards. Also, I have no idea why I’m so hunched over in this photo! |
But then we got a little too busy site-seeing (Savannah is so rich in history and a ton of fun!) and taking walks along the beach and talking stories and MBT business. Oh, and celebrating Rachel’s birthday (which is actually in December) and my book launch (which is in September). The team totally surprised me with that one. I was so confused when I walked in and they started singing and I saw all the decorations. So. Much. Fun.
Anyhow, all this to say, the video interview didn’t happen. But this works out just fine as we’ve rescheduled for May 29, at which time we’ll chat about Rachel’s new release, Once Upon a Prince.
And in the meantime, I’m playing guest blogger myself with a guest post over at Beth Vogt’s blog. Beth is one of my favorite writers, a wonderful friend and someone I look up to in so many ways. She invited me to join her “When Life Doesn’t Go According to Plan” series.
To which I said, what? Life always goes according to my plans. Ha. Not so much. I hope you’ll stop by and check out the post…and also check out Beth’s latest book, Catch a Falling Star.
Break time
I will be taking a short blogging break in the next two weeks. I’m “going dark” to rewrite and revise my second book because an author’s gotta do what an author’s gotta do in order to, well, keep being an author. 🙂
I’m really excited about this second book and the way the story has shaped up. It’s completely different than what I first envisioned…which is part of what makes the process so fun. And it features one of my favorite characters from Made to Last.
So again, it’s break time for now, but I’ll be back again with a fun guest on May 15–the wonderful Becky Wade! Until then, have a wonderful first two weeks of May.
Just for fun
So, in this candy store in Savannah I saw huge bags of “Magic Mushroom Popcorn” …which apparently is exclusive? What is this? I’m so confused? If it would’ve fit in my suitcase I just might’ve purchased some.
Can anyone tell me what Magic Mushroom Popcorn is? (I’ll be really bummed if I found out Magic Mushroom is just a brand name.)

Sorry can’t help you on the Magic Mushroom. But I’m going to Savannah in September…after I turn in my 2nd book. Speaking of which, I better get back to…Oh! Can’t wait to read your first one!
Okay, so I looked up Magic Mushroom Popcorn and apparently it’s a kind of popcorn that’s really good for making caramel corn or kettle corn. WHO KNEW? 🙂
OK Melissa, you know how you just had to vent on last Fridays post? Well, here goes..prayerfully I will not offend. 🙂 This AM I was so encouraged to read about how He has called me “out of darkness into His marvelous light.” and then not more than an hour or so later I read on my daughters post that she is “going dark” for a couple weeks. I’m like OK is this some term for computers, writers, whatever, that this 50 year old hasn’t heard before. Whatever it is I am here to say, I don’t like it. AND I especially don’t like it when it’s in anything connected to my kidos…even if it is just one of those things that I don’t know what it means. Yucky! It just sounds yucky. “going dark.” Ick. Obviously, I know you and your sweet heart Melissa, and I know you love Light, I am just following your venting example! 🙂 Praying that these next couple weeks are filled with His marvelous light as you use your creative talents for His glory. (oh, and I don’t know, magic mushroom popcorn sounds kind of dark…haha…on to Beth Vogt’s guest post now)
Haha, Mom, you can vent anytime here and that’s okay and yes, it’s just an internet term BUT as we just got done talking about the power of words recently…I will amend it to say, “I’m hiding out from the internet while I write.” Haha!! 🙂
As for magic mushroom popcorn, I found out it’s good for kettle corn…which is very light and sweet…so we’re all good there. LOL! 🙂
This makes me love your mom, and I’ve never met her!
Thanks, Teri. She’s pretty great. 🙂
Praying God blesses your writing and re-writing as you go dark over the next two weeks. Hugs!
Thanks, Donna. I’m excited about revisions on this book. It’ll be WONDERFUL to get to a place where I can finally call it done. 🙂
You’d better not go dark to me!! 😛 I will bombard you with emails, texts, tweets, and facebook messages until you answer me. Muahahaha!!
Haha, you KNOW I will stay in contact with you…I couldn’t go on a writing binge without constant contact from my fabulous CP. 🙂
I love Savannah! We lived just outside Augusta for four years, and took my brother down there to tour the Savannah College of Art and Design campus when he was accepted. Such a beautiful city!
Looking forward to BOTH of your books!
Hey, I think I saw that campus when we were there. And yes, such a beautiful city!
So much fun to spend time with you MTagg! Yes, you are allowed to go dark. And can I just say, it sounds like you have a really awesome Mom!
Praying for a productive and peaceful time as you work on your second bestseller!
Hugs!
Yes, it was so fun hanging out with you, Alena. Counting the weeks til our next hangout. 🙂 And yes, I have an incredibly awesome mom. 🙂
Hugs to you, too!
I wish you well on your revisions, Melissa!
I see that you get your lovely sense of humor from your mom. Fun!
Thanks, Keli. I enjoy revising, actually. First drafts make me feel queasy but revising is fun to me. 🙂
And yes…you are probably right that much of my sense of humor comes from my mom. 🙂
Best of luck, Melissa on your revisions! Can’t wait to read the first one and hear all about the second. Oh, and Savannah IS an amazing place. Totally see why you were sidetracked:)
Thanks, Susan. I’m pretty excited to hunker down and get the work done. 🙂
Sounds like such a fun vacation!
It definitely was!
Yay for a break – and not “going dark”! 🙂 You and your mom are right, words are EXTREMELY powerful! As you hide out from the internet and work on your revisions, I’ll be praying for the Light to break forth like the noonday sun on your writing. Can’t wait to read it!!
Oh thank you, Gabe! You are so encouraging!
You’ll be missed, Melissa! Looking forward to your return and all the great things you have planned.
Wishing you a relaxing break – don’t work too hard. 😉
Thanks, Rissi! I actually really HOPE to work hard. Haha…but it’ll be a good, refreshing kind of hard work. 🙂
You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but I
find this topic to be really something that I think I would never understand.
It seems too complicated and extremely broad for me. I’m looking forward for your next post, I’ll try to get the hang of it!
